Human rights lawyer Femi Falana has asserted that the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria does not acknowledge the recently appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retired). Falana’s comments were made during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Falana highlighted that Section 305 of the constitution does not provide the President, currently Bola Tinubu, with the authority to suspend or remove an incumbent governor, referencing the dismissal of Siminalayi Fubara as an example.
The statements highlight a constitutional challenge to the recent political changes in Rivers State.
