Crude oil from Nigeria’s Trans Niger Pipeline has been rerouted through an alternative pathway following a rupture caused by blasts on the main line. Renaissance, the consortium now operating the pipeline, confirmed the diversion after an integrity test on the alternative line was successfully completed. Repair efforts are ongoing on the main line.
The Trans Niger Pipeline, which has a capacity of approximately 450,000 barrels per day, is a crucial component in the export of Bonny Light crude from Nigeria, the continent’s largest oil producer. Initial investigations suggest that arson might be the cause of the damage to the primary line. The pipeline is part of the Renaissance Group’s portfolio, having been acquired from Shell’s local unit and includes participation from several Nigerian and international energy companies.
