President Bola Tinubu has appointed board members for the newly established Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to reform the electric power sector. Dr. Adesegun Akin-Olugbade will serve as the board chairman, while Engineer Abdu Mohammed Bello has been appointed Managing Director.

The executive team also includes four newly appointed Executive Directors, covering key operational areas such as:

  • Systems Operation
  • Systems Planning
  • Market Operations
  • Finance and Corporate Services

Additionally, five Non-Executive Directors will oversee Generation, Distribution, Transmission, Market Expertise, and represent the Federal Ministry of Power.

These appointments are aligned with the Electricity Act of 2023, which mandated the reorganization of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) into a separate Transmission System Provider (TSP) and an Independent System Operator (ISO). NISO, officially established by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in April 2024, aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of Nigeria’s power supply. This restructuring is part of broader efforts to improve the country’s energy infrastructure and regulatory framework.
