Civil society groups, legal experts, and media representatives have called on the Edo State Government to integrate the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) into state law. The appeal for the adoption of this federal legislation was made during a town hall meeting organized by the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA).
Advocates believe that domesticating the FOIA in Edo State will significantly bolster transparency and accountability among governmental operations and public offices. Presently, the Act is not yet a part of Edo’s legal framework, unlike in some other Nigerian states where it has been adopted to facilitate access to information, thereby empowering citizens and enhancing trust in public institutions.
