Security forces in Katsina State have successfully rescued 84 kidnapped individuals from terrorist strongholds in a coordinated military operation. The operation targeted terrorist leader Sanusi Dutsin-Ma’s enclave in the Kankara Local Government Area and was undertaken by troops from the 17 Brigade alongside the Air Component Operation Forest Sanity.

The rescue, which took place on March 18, 2025, involved air strikes and ground maneuvers that resulted in the elimination of three terrorists, with several others fleeing with injuries. The security operatives engaged the terrorists at villages in Malori and Matalawa, eventually reaching Dutsin-Ma’s camp, where the firefight concluded with the successful liberation of the captives.

The rescued group consisted of seven males, 23 females, and 54 children. Immediate food assistance was provided to them before they were transferred to local authorities for further care and reunification. The operation was completed without casualties on the part of the security personnel, underscoring the professionalism of the forces involved.

The Katsina State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting security agencies in efforts to eliminate criminal activities and ensure the safety of its residents, highlighting the significance of these rescue operations in their broader strategy to restore peace in the region.
