Vice Admiral Ibot-Ete Ibas has formally assumed his role as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State. He took office on Thursday after arriving at the Government House in Port Harcourt, where he was warmly received by key state and security officials. This appointment comes following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and others as a response to the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Ibas’s takeover marks the beginning of a six-month interim administration, as mandated by President Bola Tinubu, designed to stabilize the area amidst unrest. The newly appointed administrator immediately engaged in strategic discussions with major security officials to address the state’s volatile political climate. These conversations are considered crucial for crafting a plan to calm tensions and restore normalcy.
This leadership change follows a meeting between Ibas and President Tinubu, which concluded with his swearing-in at the State House in Abuja. The transition of power and the rapid pace of strategic meetings reflect the urgency with which the federal government is addressing the prevalent issues in Rivers State.
