The father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has filed a legal application asking the Lagos High Court in Ikeja to review the legal advice issued by the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). Aloba Joseph seeks to challenge the DPP’s legal advice that led to the discharge and acquittal of four suspects implicated in Mohbad’s death.

The application was submitted on March 12 and is based on the grounds of a lack of fair hearing and interference with an ongoing Coroner’s inquest into the singer’s death, which is viewed as suspicious. While the Coroner’s Court has not concluded its investigation, the DPP’s advice prompted the Yaba Magistrate Court to discharge:

  • Abdul Azeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley
  • Samson Balogun Eletu
  • Owodunni Ibrahim
  • Opere Babatunde

Aloba’s application argues that the issuance of the legal advice without awaiting the Coroner’s findings could undermine the integrity of the investigation. No judge or hearing date has been assigned for this application yet.
