The Israeli military has initiated a ground operation to expand the buffer zone between northern and southern Gaza. The operation, termed “pinpoint,” has been in progress for 24 hours and focuses on central and southern Gaza, specifically regaining control over the Netzarim axis.
This move comes alongside renewed Israeli airstrikes, leading to at least 436 deaths and over 670 injuries since Tuesday. The latest escalation shatters a previous ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement that dated back to January. Gaza, besieged for 18 years, is now further devastated, with its 2.4 million residents affected by the intensified conflict.
Humanitarian Toll
The humanitarian toll is grave, with nearly 50,000 Palestinians reported dead, predominantly women and children, since the military campaign resumed in October 2023. Over 112,000 have sustained injuries. International attention has mounted, with the International Criminal Court issuing arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the region.
