MultiChoice Group has announced a price increase across its DStv satellite and Showmax streaming services in South Africa for 2025, significantly impacting football enthusiasts. The Showmax Premier League package will experience the steepest rise, soaring by 43.5% from $3.80 to approximately $5.45 per month. This adjustment is part of the company’s strategy to manage rising operational costs while contending with strong competition in the streaming sector.

DStv satellite packages will generally see smaller price hikes, remaining close to or under the inflation rate, with the DStv Access package facing a 7.9% increase to $8.26 per month. Noteworthy changes include:

  • A 6.5% rise for DStv Compact Plus.
  • A 5.4% increase for DStv Premium.

Showmax will implement various adjustments beyond the Premier League package:

  • The Showmax Entertainment Mobile service will see an 11.1% increase.
  • The Showmax Entertainment Mobile and Premier League plan will experience a 21.2% rise.
  • The standard Showmax package will remain unchanged, offering some respite amidst the widespread hikes.

MultiChoice is responding to increased competition and evolving market dynamics, while also emphasizing added value for its DStv Compact subscribers by expanding its sports channel lineup. With the adjustments, consumers face new financial considerations in their pay-TV and streaming service choices.
