Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has publicly distanced himself from the collective stance of the South-South Governors regarding President Bola Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. According to a statement from Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Okpebholo was not consulted on the matter and was not involved in the decision-making process that led to the opposition voiced by his South-South counterparts.
Governor Okpebholo emphasizes that while the regional governors are entitled to their positions, he personally supports President Tinubu’s actions intended to restore peace and stability in Rivers State and the broader South-South region. This latest development marks a clear departure from the unified front presented by the South-South Governors, highlighting differing perspectives within the regional leadership on handling the security situation in Rivers State.
