The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a former Deputy Director of Highways at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Augustine Ojo Olowoniyan, and a surveyor, Sulaiman Abdulkadir Muhammed. Both were charged with involvement in a N1.9 billion fraud scheme. The arraignment took place before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie at the Federal Capital Territory court.
The EFCC alleges that the two individuals engaged in fraudulent activities while in their official capacities at the Department of Highways and Planning. This case forms part of the wider efforts by the Nigerian government to tackle corruption within public institutions.
The charges underscore the ongoing scrutiny of public service sectors by anti-graft agencies in Nigeria, with the focus on accountability and transparency in government transactions. This development serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of financial misconduct within public offices. The case is set to continue as the judiciary examines the details of the allegations against the accused.
