A young Chinese footballer, Guo Jiaxuan, has tragically died just before his 19th birthday following a severe head injury sustained in a training match. The incident occurred last month during a game in Madrid involving a Beijing U-20 team and the Spanish club RC Alcobendas. Guo was declared “brain dead” by doctors and later transported to a hospital in Beijing, where he passed away.

Guo’s family has raised concerns about the lack of communication from the Beijing Football Association regarding the incident. They are seeking access to video footage of the match, details of the medical attention he received before hospitalization, and information on his insurance coverage.

The player, part of Beijing Guoan’s youth system and the Chinese U-17 national team, had also been involved in international talent development through the FC Bayern World Squad project. Amid the family’s grievance, both Beijing Guoan and the Beijing Football Association have pledged support and promised a thorough examination of the incident.
