The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has expressed criticism towards the handling of kidnappings by security agencies in Edo State following the tragic death of a 21-year-old seminarian, Andrew Peter. Peter was killed by his abductors, although authorities were able to rescue Rev. Fr. Philip Ekweli, who was kidnapped alongside him. The Edo State Police Command confirmed both the incident and Peter’s death on Friday.

The diocesan response highlights ongoing concerns over the capability and effectiveness of local security forces in addressing and mitigating the prevalence of kidnappings in the region. This situation underscores the urgent need for improved strategies and stronger responses from security agencies.
