Former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced the formation of a coalition of opposition parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. This coalition aims to consolidate efforts to provide a robust opposition to the APC, seeking to shift the political landscape in Nigeria.
The announcement was made during a press briefing in Abuja, where opposition leaders also criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State. The coalition is demanding the reversal of this decision, along with the reinstatement of suspended officials, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu.
The coalition against the APC underscores growing political tension and serves as a precursor to what may be a highly contested election period in 2027, with opposition parties uniting to potentially alter the current power structure in Nigeria.
