The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has launched a new directive, the Nigeria Data Protection Act – General Application and Implementation Directive (NDP Act GAID), aimed at providing detailed guidance on implementing the Nigeria Data Protection Act. This directive is designed to clarify the responsibilities and requirements for individuals and organizations under the data protection law.
A notable feature of the directive is the introduction of a mechanism known as the Data Subjects’ Standard Notice to Address Grievance (SNAG). This feature allows individuals to address privacy violations and seek remediation without the need to visit the Commission in person, fostering a more accessible approach to managing data breaches.
The initiative aims to improve compliance by helping data controllers and processors understand their roles and responsibilities. Additionally, it seeks to empower Nigerians by providing a clear framework for protecting personal data, addressing privacy concerns, and accommodating emerging technologies.
