The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, announced that the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State effectively prevented the impeachment of the now-suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This emergency measure was initiated by President Bola Tinubu as a response to political tensions, notably with the Martins Amaewhule-led House of Assembly, which supported the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The declaration was aimed at stabilizing the state’s political environment by halting legislative proceedings that could have led to Fubara’s removal from office.
