The National Industrial Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered all involved parties to maintain peace in the ongoing legal proceedings concerning the suspended Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko. The court, presided over by Justice Maureen Esowe, emphasized that its prior order does not include reinstating Onafeko, as the court lacks the authority to reverse actions taken by the State House of Assembly.
The bench provided this clarification following a request from the acting clerk’s counsel, who sought to understand the court’s February directive to maintain the status quo. The case, which involves multiple defendants including the Lagos State Government and various legislative bodies and officials, has been adjourned to April 2 to address a range of pending applications. These include:
- Requests to reverse actions taken by Onafeko.
- The filing of a change of counsel by specific parties.
Justice Esowe stressed the need for timely documentation and exchange of relevant legal materials ahead of the next hearing. The court’s decisions aim to ensure procedural justice while maintaining order before the upcoming session.
