The Nigerian Optometric Association has appealed to the Federal Government to take action in response to the increasing prevalence of glaucoma throughout the country. The association has suggested the employment of optometrists in all 774 local government areas as a means to enhance accessibility to eye care services, which could help in managing and reducing cases of the eye condition.
Additionally, the organization has recommended that the government reduce costs associated with medical equipment and drugs by granting waivers to importers of pharmaceutical products, including lenses. This measure is expected to make eye care more affordable and accessible, potentially improving public health outcomes related to vision impairment and loss.
